UI and UX are not a coat of paint

UI UX design that “converts” means the user can complete the job: a quote, an application, a purchase, a booking. Visual polish without a clear path is a brochure.
What we actually do in a design phase
We talk to the people who will use the system, map the journeys, wireframe the awkward cases, and test the paths that lose money or time. Then we specify components the front-end can build: states, empty views, errors, accessibility.
Figma is a tool. The deliverable is decisions: information architecture, copy that matches the domain, and constraints the stack can honour.
Research with real users or staff, even if the sample is small. Flows for failure, not only the happy path. Accessible contrast, focus, and forms that can be completed with a keyboard. Handover with engineers in the room, not a dump of files.
Conversion is a systems problem
A checkout that converts is also payments, performance and trust copy. A staff tool that “converts” (gets used) is also training and data that is already there. Design cannot fix a three-minute API or a mandatory field nobody has.
We measure the journeys you named in the brief. Vanity metrics on a marketing page are not the same as task completion in a web application.
Design with the people who will build it
You get UX and UI as part of the same UK IT team that writes the front-end. That is slower than a pretty deck and faster than reworking screens in development.
