About the client

Dominique, a professional-service café near Brighton’s business quarter (counter service plus a small seating floor), took lunch orders by phone and a paper pad. Allergen notes were handwritten; the kitchen often got a different version of the order than the till.

A franchise POS package was out of scope — they wanted something sized for one site. The brief was takeaway and table orders with allergen notes, card payment, and a kitchen board the chef actually watches.

Functionality

  • Takeaway and table orders from phone or counter tablet
  • Allergen notes on menu items and on the ticket the kitchen sees
  • Card payment before the ticket hits the board
  • Kitchen board with ticket age and done / cancelled states
  • Simple day totals for the owner without a separate spreadsheet

Solution

  • Guests build an order with allergen notes that travel on the same ticket the kitchen opens — not a sticky note on the till.
  • Payment succeeds before the board lights up; failed cards never create a kitchen ticket.
  • The kitchen board is a full-screen PWA on a tablet at the pass; staff mark tickets done without walking back to the counter.
  • Day totals and open tickets sit in one owner view. Source and hosting stay with Dominique under the contract.

Project results

Phone-pad lunch rush orders moved onto the board within the first week.

Allergen notes reach the kitchen on the ticket, not as a separate shout.

Failed payments no longer create ghost tickets.

The owner closes the day from one screen instead of reconciling the pad and the card machine by hand.

Customer review

“The kitchen sees the same allergen note the guest typed. We are not shouting orders across the pass from a paper pad anymore.”
